A Casa Vella Residency Project 2025 will see Dance Beyond Borders (DBB) collaborate with BajoTeja (Spain) and Biloura Intercultural Performing Arts (Italy) as part of the Culture Moves Europe initiative. In February 2025, DBB will attent a 23-day interdisciplinary residency in rural Galicia, Spain, titled ‘Todo lo que nos rodea está aún vivo. (Everything that surrounds us is still alive), will explore ecofeminism and community-based art practices.

The project will culminate in a multidisciplinary outdoor performance that integrates dance, theatre, and music, presented three times in various natural settings. A significant focus will be on participatory methodologies, engaging local communities—especially women—in the creative process through seven collaborative sessions.

Under the mentorship of BajoTeja, known for its commitment to cultural democracy, the residency aims to transform artistic practices by emphasising egalitarian, equitable and sustainable approaches. This collaboration also continues DBB's relationship with Biloura, following their joint efforts at the Polimorfa Festival in 2023 and 2024, aligning with DBB's mission to foster social change through the arts.

RWM 2025 marks the festival's fourth year, building upon the success of previous editions with a deepened commitment to inclusivity and community engagement. Central to the festival’s development for 2025, is the establishment of an Advisory Group, composed of individuals with lived experiences of displacement in Malta, as well as representatives from organisations working in migration, arts, and culture. This group will play a crucial role in guiding the festival’s direction, ensuring it remains representative of and responsive to the community it serves.

Signature events including the March for Peace and SparkFest will return in 2025, offering anchor points for cultural exchange and dialogue, while the festival will also continue its partnership with the Malta International Arts Festival (MIAF) for the third consecutive year. Through this collaboration, the Advisory Group will help steer the direction of commissioned public performances, events and activities, ensuring the refugee and asylum-seeking community is at the heart of the creative process.

For the 2025 edition, happening from 16th June to 22nd June, Refugee Week Malta is supported by the Arts Support Scheme Right to Culture by Arts Council Malta.

CONNECTING SILENT VOICES is an international collaboration involving Italy, Malta, Bulgaria, and Kosovo, focused on the marginalization and exploitation of women in the sex industry. Through dance, workshops, debates, and community workshops, the project aims to raise awareness and empower communities around this often-overlooked issue.  At its core is the SILENT VOICES performance, rooted in a five-year research initiative titled 5 VOICES FOR 1, led by Biloura Arts Collective. This project involved creative workshops with women in the sex industry, conducted with support from international NGOs. The workshops emphasiSed empowerment and self-esteem, allowing participants to shape how their stories were told through audio recordings that form the performance's emotional soundscape. The performance debuted at the Asia Culture Center in South Korea.

SILENT VOICES captures the diverse experiences of women from Asia, South America, Africa, and Europe, creating a unified narrative that highlights their humanity amid exploitation.

Dance Beyond Borders serves as the local producer for the Maltese presentation as part of Dance Festival Malta in July 2025, hosting community-focused activities including workshops and public debates in collaboration with local NGOs.
