Reshaping Culture through the Arts

Dance Beyond Borders (DBB) is a Malta-based artivist organisation founded in 2020.  We use the arts to create meaningful encounters that bridge people, communities and perspectives, fostering dialogue around migration, identity, belonging, decoloniality and social justice.

Through performance, community-led artistic practice and participatory experiences, we invite people to reflect, listen deeply and imagine new possibilities together.

Rooted in Malta and connected internationally, we believe the arts can reshape how we relate to one another by creating spaces where empathy grows, difference is valued and communities are nourished through shared creative experience.

Our Practice

Our work is rooted in three interconnected areas of practice.

Artivism - Art & Activism

Using artistic practice to spark dialogue

We believe the arts inspire empathy, critical thinking and possibilities for social change. Through performance, participatory experiences and creative encounters, we invite collective reflection around migration, identity, belonging, decoloniality and social justice. Our work invites audiences into active participation, creating space for reflection, dialogue and new ways of relating to one another.

Cultural Facilitation

Holding space for Connection

We create and hold spaces where people come together through shared creative experience. Grounded in participation, care and collaboration, our facilitation supports people to engage with complex, contested and often divisive topics through listening, trust and exchange. We create meaningful encounters that celebrate difference, strengthen relationships and transform conflict into connection.

Education & Advocacy

Growing with one another

Learning is most powerful when it is shared and experiential. Through workshops, roundtable conversations and participatory experiences, we create opportunities to learn with one another through dialogue, reflection and exchange. We believe learning is enriched when lived experience and multiple perspectives come together.

Principles guiding our Practice

Everything we do is guided by principles that shape both our creative practice and the relationships we build.  They shape how we collaborate, facilitate, and create spaces that encourage people to feel able to participate, contribute, and belong.

Care

Care begins by recognising that everyone enters a space with different experiences, needs and capacities. We create conditions where people feel safe enough to engage with complexity, supported through trust, transparency and responsive facilitation. From equitable pay to collaborative decision-making, we believe care is reflected in turning the intentions we hold into meaningful action.
